James Gillespie and the Gillespie Tobacco Concern
James Gillespie of Spylaw (1726–1797) was a Scottish tobacco merchant who traded as a tobacconist in partnership with his younger brother John Gillespie at what is now Number 231 High Street, Edinburgh, and who acquired in 1759 the Colinton snuff mill whence the Gillespie sort of snuff tobacco derived its name.
