Thomas Leiper the Scottish-American Magnate
Thomas Leiper (1745–1825) was a Scottish-American magnate who involved himself in such activities as with tobacco, quarrying, milling, and banking. Having emigrated in 1763 and specifically to Maryland, Leiper relocated in 1765 to Pennsylvania and there traded as a tobacco exporter before eventually establishing two snuff mills on Crum Creek, the first by 1779 and the second by 1790. Leiper was ultimately succeeded in business by certain of his sons.
